The Electronic System for Travel Authorization will typically return an Application Status within 72 hours. However, you will need the ESTA website to verify that status. Go to the ESTA UK homepage, click “Check Existing Applications”, and then “Check Individual status”. Next, enter your passport number, birth date, and application number. Click “I don’t know the Application Number” if you have not received or can’t locate your application number. Next, enter your passport number and country of citizenship. There are three possible answers to an electronic travel authorisation request.

ESTA Update: Authorisation Approved

Your travel authorisation has been approved. You can now travel to the United States through the Visa Waiver Program. The system will display confirmation of your application approval and a payment receipt notice indicating the amount charged to your credit card. A travel authorisation is not a guarantee of admission to the United States. A Customs and Border Protection officer at the port of entry will make the final determination.

ESTA Verify: Travel not Authorized

The Visa Waiver Program does not allow you to travel to the United States. The Department of State may be able to grant you a visa for your travel. For more information on applying for visas, please visit the United States Department of State Web Site at www.travel.state.gov. This does not mean that you are denied entry to the United States. This response does not prohibit you from travelling to the United States under Visa Waiver Program. A payment receipt notice is also displayed in the system. This shows the amount charged to your credit card to process the ESTA application.

Because your request for travel authorisation has not been processed immediately, we are currently reviewing it. This does not mean that there are any negative findings. Usually, a determination is available within 72 hours. Return to this website and click on “Check ESTA Status”. To check the status of your application, you will need to provide your application number, passport number and birth date.

Suppose you have made a mistake while applying for your ESTA application, such as including a wrong passport number, expiry date, issuing date, or personal information. In that case, you will need to apply for a new ESTA Visa again. Once you obtain a new travel authorisation, your previous application will become invalid. However, your upcoming trip (flight and hotel information) can be updated any time before departure.

What Happens if I forget my application number?

After verifying your email address, the confirmation email will contain the application number. To Check the application number, you will need to check your ESTA status, which you can do from our website. You can find your application number by entering your country, passport number, passport expiration and issuance dates, or birth date.

When should I apply for the ESTA application again?

In any of these situations, a new travel authorisation might be required:

A new passport is issued to the traveller
Traveler changes their name
Travelers change their gender
The country of citizenship for the traveller changes

Travel authorisation approvals are typically granted for two years or until the passport expires. Upon approval of your application, ESTA will give you valid dates. A traveller must apply for a new authorisation once the previous ESTA authorisation has expired or if the applicant’s passport is due to expire. Each new application will incur an additional fee.

What ESTA information can you update?

Before submitting an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) application with the required payment information, you can update all application data fields except the passport and name information. Once an application is completed and submitted, you can change any of the following areas at any time:

Address while in the United States

Previously it was possible to update the telephone number, carrier information and city where you are boarding. However, now it is only possible to update the e-mail address and address while in the United States.
